Editorial Policy Regarding Open Archives

Authors are authorized to register a copy of the pre-print version of their article, meaning the version prior to that validated by the editorial board of the journal in which they seek publication. However, circulation or reproduction of either the post-print version of an article (that is, an accepted and revised version) or the PDF of a published work is forbidden.

Authors retain the right to reproduce or present the post-print version of their work in the context of non-commercial activities, research, and/or teaching. They may transmit this version when participating in symposiums, conferences, and seminars. If an author wishes to republish their work, he or she should seek permission from the editor.

  • The version of an article submitted to the Annales editorial board may be published at any time via the personal webpage of the author, an institutional repository, a non-commercial repository, a commercial repository, or social media sites.

  • The version of an article accepted by the Annales editorial board may be published on acceptance via the personal webpage of the author, an institutional repository, or a non-commercial repository. However, only the abstract plus a link to Cambridge Core or Cairn may be published via a commercial repository or on social media sites.

  • The version of an article revised and edited in collaboration with Annales staff must not be circulated online in any format (including the PDF and the word-processing file). Only the abstract and a link to Cambridge Core or Cairn may be published via the personal webpage of the author, an institutional repository, a non-commercial repository, a commercial repository, or social media sites.
